Introduction. Developing the skill to sensitively manage embarrassed patients is a vital competency for every GP trainee. In primary care, consultations often involve deeply personal or socially sensitive topics—ranging from sexual health and mental wellbeing to incontinence, substance misuse, and intimate partner violence. Many patients feel ashamed, judged, or anxious when disclosing such issues, which can lead to avoidance, incomplete histories, or missed diagnoses.
